Each year in October, different cities around North America (and as of 2008 around the world!) compete to see how many babies can be latched on at the same time at the same place.
In 2001 when this event started, there were 856 babies at 26 sites in British Columbia, Canada. Last year there were 5,383 babies at 230 sites across Canada and the US. I personally participated in the event with my son in 2005 (I would have participated in 2004, but he was 6 weeks old and had not yet latched on – he latched on for the first time when he was 7.5 weeks old) and with my daughter in 2007. My daughter and I plan to participate again this year.
This year they would love to see that number increase dramatically. Do your part, join an existing site or organize a site - big or small! Every breastfeeding baby counts in the final count.
Spread the word!

How neat. I remember hearing about it last year but deciding not to go (I think I chickened out at the idea of going alone!) – I’ll make a point of going this year.
