It looks like the Conservatives are back in and with an even higher seat count than last time. Women’s rights, child care, poverty, culture, and the environment will be neglected even further. While I usually celebrate diversity in society, it makes me very sad that so many Canadians have once again demonstrated how selfish and short sighted they are.
Sigh.

Crossing fingers that the Conservatives don’t win in the US
It never ceases to amaze me how closed-minded people are. How can women not vote for women’s rights, childcare, poverty and protecting the environment? For that matter, how can men not vote for those things? Are we really selfis creatures, caring only for ourselves? I hope not. And, like Ashley, I hope that the voices of CHANGE and HOPE win in the US–so very soon.
Saddly I think its world wide …well in the west maybe.

I am so sorry. I am sick to my stomach waiting to see if things will work out better in the US. I am glad I have my son, because if the Cons win (or steal the election like they have in the past) I would seriously consider jumping out my window. I don’t know if we can survive four years of dumb and dumber on the Rep tciket.
Oh, come on. As a conservative who is somehow, miraculously FOR women’s rights, the abolition of poverty, safe, affordable childcare, and the protection of the environment, I take great issue with the erroneous assumption that Republican or conservative somehow equates to uncaring selfishness. Ignorance and intolerance go both ways, ladies, and diversity includes people you don’t agree with. This kind of thinking is exactly what will push this country into further division.

@Evenshine Being in favour of something and having a clear and resourced plan in support of it are two different things. Unfortunately, my experience with Conservative governments on these issues is that they may say they support these things in principle, but they don’t truly make it a priority. When push comes to shove, wars and corporations win out over poverty, children and environment.
That may be true about Conservative governments in general, but the Conservative party here in Canada is probably further left than your Democratic party. Insulting Canadians without understanding our political system is what’s short sighted.
