Update on Ad Network
Tuesday, May 22, 2012
Thank you, dear readers, for your help identifying what ad you were seeing with the ad network I was testing out. After testing for one week, I have decided not to continue using it for several reasons:
So, back to exclusively selling my own ads. If you are interested in advertising, check out my information here.
Also, it has been a busy and exhausting couple of weeks, but I hope to be writing more again soon. I'm always open to topic ideas (although I can't guarantee that I'll write about them -- I need to be inspired for my fingers to do their magic).
Thank you again for your input.
- Despite blocking certain categories and certain brands, ads that I didn't want to have displayed on my site continued to appear and there wasn't an adequate way to resolve that.
- After displaying the ad for one week (resulting in it being seen 11,700 times), my earnings total $1.78, which is not worth having you see any ad as far as I'm concerned.
- It doesn't appear to show on all devices (e.g. never showed on Android and possibly slow to load on some others).

I appreciate the thought you've put into this. I think that your hand-selected ads fit your target audience. I know that I've clicked on more than one of them. It always feels icky when a site I like takes ad money from companies that I don't like. I've stopped going to more than one website as a result of this. It's important to me that my clicks don't support a system that I don't agree with. I'm sure my mini-boycotts have zero effect, but they make me feel better. I don't like the way most internet advertising works. Currently I'm being stalked by ads for a men's clothing company named after a great ape, in all likelihood because I did an internet search on the actual animal for my kids, and then clicked on the link to the company in the search results. It's creepy.
