Why I Protest Nestlé’s Unethical Business Practices

by phdinparenting on August 2, 2010

I am an outspoken critic of Nestlé’s unethical business practices. Although I have been aware of some of the issues with Nestlé for years, I have become more aware of the depth and breadth of the issues since my interaction with both Nestlé and the Nestlé Family Bloggers starting last September. This post provides an [...]

As I promised back in my BlogHer Accountability Post, I am making charitable donations in the amount of $600. That is the full cost of a BlogHer ’10 ticket, if it were not covered by sponsors. This year’s BlogHer sponsor list includes a number of companies that I am not enamored with, including most notably [...]

The fact that a couple of Nestle brands are sponsoring the BlogHer ’10 conference really sucks. I’ve written here already about my choice, my approach, and my reasons. Although I’ve taken one path in my activism, I also have a great deal of respect for people who have chosen other paths. Whether they are doing [...]

What is the gold standard in infant nutrition?

by phdinparenting on June 29, 2010

I’m pretty sure evidence says the gold standard in infant nutrition is breast milk. Even Nestlé pretends to agree with that.  But for some reason Nestlé is telling health care workers in Dubai that its formula is the new “Gold Standard” in infant nutrition. I’m confused. Aren’t you? More info: See “updates” section of Baby [...]

Tell Nestlé that formula doesn’t PROTECT babies

by phdinparenting on June 15, 2010

Baby Milk Action is heading up a campaign to e-mail Nestlé about its formula labels that claim that its formula protects babies. It is encouraging people to e-mail Nestlé to demand that it put a stop to this practice.  Here is a brief excerpt from Baby Milk Action’s facebook page: Nestle’s latest global marketing strategy [...]

In my post outlining my dismay at the Nestlé sponsorship of BlogHer and in other places on the Internet, some people who boycott Nestlé due to its unethical business practices, some people who support Nestlé, and some objective observers have commented that it is inappropriate for me to attend BlogHer. They say that because I [...]

My BlogHer Accountability Post

by phdinparenting on June 1, 2010

I’m disappointed and angry. I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I have an amazing opportunity to tell women why they should and how they can be taken seriously as advocates of important issues. But that opportunity is now being sponsored by a couple brands owned by Nestle, a company that I protest [...]

More evidence you can’t believe a word Nestle says

by phdinparenting on May 8, 2010

If there are still people who believe anything the Nestle executive told them at the Nestle Family event or anything they claim elsewhere, despite my analysis of the answers I received from Nestle, despite the ongoing work of Baby Milk Action’s Boycott Nestle Blog to expose Nestle’s lies, and despite a first person account of [...]

Jessica Gottlieb is a reluctant but determined participant in the Nestle boycott. Listen as she explains why she cannot use their products, despite the fact that she loves them (from Jessica’s YouTube channel). People like Jessica and I have strong voices. Organizations like Greenpeace and Baby Milk Action have a wide reach. The more Nestle [...]

Nestle online charm offensive = lipstick on a pig

by phdinparenting on February 6, 2010

Seems someone has been beating up on Nestle in the social media world. In fact, it is so bad that they had to fly in a bunch of PR firms into their headquarters in Switzerland to brief them on Nestle’s need for help charting a path through social media. According to Arun Sudhaman’s article, Nestle [...]
