Think of the Elves

We've been listening to Putumayo's Christmas Around the World and Barenaked Ladies Barenaked for the Holidays CDs in our car lately. The kids have their favourite songs (and Julian went off to school this morning singing "Happy Birthday dear Jesus" even though he says he knows the Lord Jesus is just make believe), but my favourite is Elf's Lament.

Here is a snippet from the lyrics:
I make toys, but I've got aspirations
Make some noise
Use your imagination
Girls and boys, before you wish for what you wish for
There's a list for who's been
Naughty or nice, but consider the price to an elf

You look at yourself
You're an elf
And the shelf is just filled with disappointing memories
Trends come and go, and your friends wanna know why you aren't just happy making crappy little gizmos
Every kid knows they'll just throw this stuff away

Merry Christmas everyone and don't forget to think of the elves! :)

Oh my goodness! This is priceless! What a great song. I have to find this for my girls. :)

Thanks for sharing!

"The Lord Jesus is just make believe." That's the best thing I have ever heard!
I like Elf's Lament too.

We really enjoy the Barenaked Holiday album, too. :) I shall be looking for the Putumayo albums as I am out and about...

We love the Barenaked Ladies one too, though I'm not familiar with the Putumayo one. I'm going to keep an eye out for it. We also love Sarah McLachlan's Wintersong as well.
